‘Cultural identity is extremely importa

‘Cultural identity is extremely important to mankind and must be preserved. Our cultural identity forms a crucial part of our personal, individual identity and is significant in the structure of each person’s wellbeing (101). Culture represents the collective autobiographical memory record of the development of a people-group and is as important to the group and its individuals as your personal autobiographical memory is to you. Without a reasonable consciousness of cultural roots it is difficult to build dignity and maintain a healthy self esteem. Our ability to build a better world future would therefore be diminished.
‘As a core facet of our humanity and of our individual identity, culture must be actively preserved so that we can continue to appreciate and enjoy its rich contrasts among the different people groups of our colourful world. The ‘pluralistic’ or ‘multicultural’ approach to cultural identity already has a significant foothold across the globe and seems to be the best approach toward preserving and maintaining cultures – with caveats.’
